Dragon Melody - A Retro RPG Mini Soundtrack
A downloadable soundtrack
This is my submission for the OST Composing Jam: Crunchtime 03.
Three very different tracks for a (modern) retro RPG:
- The first track, Dragon Melody, is a smooth village theme. The main flute melody is the theme of the dragon (a mystic spirit living in the mountains and protecting the village, yada yada....), and the second theme was supposed to be the heroine theme (a brave girl in charge of the shrine, the kind to wish for a simple life but getting dragged into adventures of epic proportions by fate or game design, you choose), but sadly, I had to rush composition for that part at the last minute, and couldn't reuse it in other tracks. The core inspiration was basically every japan based village in any RPG.
- The second track, Something Evil, is more of an ambient tune, the kind that accompany a cutscene. I actually recorded myself doing a bit of throat singing and used a clip in a granular synth for the ominous bass sound. I was loosely inspired by the Secret Of Evermore soundtrack here.
- Finally, Fighting To Protect, an old fashioned boss battle theme, with guitars, organs and synth lead going at 180bpm :D That's my comfort zone. You'll probably recognize the homage to FF6 Decisive Battle in the first synth riff. I reused the dragon theme in the end (with a twist), as it is supposed to be the "final boss" (the corrupted dragon to be cleanse, you know the deal). I probably lost a full hour listening to this one again and again.
First time participating in a music only jam. I'm more of a dev guy, but I do make music and I had some time on my end, so why not! Except that I had things to do and basically my whole Saturday was spent doing errands and not composing, so I had to rush things a bit and could not produce as much tracks as I would have liked :/
Hope you'll have as fun listening to those tracks as I had making them :)
Have a nice day :D
